국제정치와 외교정책을 포함하는 전반적인 국제관계이론을 고찰한다. 특히 전통적인 국제관계이론으로부터 최근 다양하게 분화되어 가는 여러가지 이론과 방법을 기초적으로 강의하며 나아가서 국제관계의 실제를 체계적으로 분석한다.

국제정치를 이해하고 연구하는데 필요한 기본적인 개념과 특징, 이론과 접근방법을 종합적이고도 다원적인 측면에서 체계적으로 소개하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 지금까지 국제정치 연구에 이용된 대부분의 이론과 접근방법 가운데 전통적인 것과 현대적인 것, 규범적인 것과 행태주의적인 것 계량적인 것과 가치 지향적인 것 등을 개관하면서 이것의 장·단점을 비교, 숙지한다.
[B01915] 북한정치론 POLITICS OF NORTH KOREA (3(3))
이 과목은 북한정치의 변동을 비교사회주의 체제론의 관점에서 살펴본다. 즉 지난 50년 동안 북한사회주의체제가 어떻게 변화해 왔으며, 앞으로 어떻게 변화할 것인가를 다른 사회주의체제의 변화에 비추어 해명하고자 하는 것이다. 여기에서는 한국 공산주의 운동과 김일성 즉 김일성 북한정권의 성립과 사회주의 건설과정, 북한의 지배 이데올로기와 권력구조, 경제발전의 성과와 한계 대외관계와 통일정책 등의 주제를 다룬다.

외교정책의 수립과정 및 집행, 결정에 관한 이론들을 살펴본다. 특히 외교정책의 형태를 특징짓는 다섯가지의 변수, 즉 개인, 역할, 정부, 사회 국제체제에 대한 심도 있는 분석을 통해 국가의 대외행위를 검토한다.

전쟁의 본질에 대한 고전적 이론과 현대적 이론을 논의한다. 전쟁의 원인과 고대의 평면전쟁에서 현대의 4세대 전쟁에 이르는 각종 전쟁형태에 대한 탐구를 한다. 전쟁의 각 단계 준비단계, 이행단계, 종결단계에서 현상분석과 평화적 예방책, 해결책을 논의한다

합리적인 정책결정과 효율적 집행 및 평가를 위한 정책이론을 연구하면서 정책현실인 정치적, 사회적, 경제적 요인들의 분석과 이를 근거로 형성된 다양한 정책논쟁들을 검토한다. 특히 정책가치, 정책과 민주주의, 정책과 정치, 정책리더십, 정책정보와 네트워크, 정책균형, 국제화와 정책 등과 같은 주요 이론들에 관한 연구와 논쟁을 심도 있고 구체적으로 검토하여 정책학 전반에 걸친 이론적이고 사상적 기초를 마련하는데 초점을 둔다.

본질적으로 미래의 행동노선인 정책을 결정하는 가장 중요한 변수는 정확하고 신뢰할 수 있는 미래예측이다. 무엇을, 어떻게 결정하면서 이에 따른 결과를 사전에 판단하고 이에 따른 정보와 지식을 가진 정책결정은 성공할 가능성이 크다. 따라서 미래예측의 방법론(계량적이고 정성적 방법)을 공부하면서 동시에 불확실성과 변동이라는 미래의 속성에 따른 각 방법론의 장단점과 그 결과를 활용할 정책결정자의 판단과 능력 등을 설명하고자 한다.

국제간의 정치, 경제, 문화 군사 등의 충돌에 의한 분쟁을 논의한다. 국제시스템의 변화에 따른 분쟁의 여러가지 원인과 형태를 분석한다. 내전, 지역분쟁, 영토 분쟁, 테러지즘과 같은 분쟁에 대하여 현상을 설명하고 에방과 해결방안을 논의한다.

향후 미래전 전장에서 이루어질 로봇 자동전투체계, 무인전투체계, 드론 체계, ICT체계 ,고도정밀 신무기 등과 사이버전, 우주전 등의 양상에 따른 미래전의 전망과 무기체계 및 기반체계 운용 전망에 대하여 이론적으로 탐구한다.
